Here are our top picks this year for the best Instagram feed for your blog or website WITHOUT using complicated API keys, secret tokens or going through doors to Narnia.
SnapWidget | Instagram Widget
The easiest, most configurable way to get your Instagram feed on your blog looking exactly how you want it (the free edition is profiled here, while there are premium versions of the app all of our screenshots were taken using the basic, free settings) is SnapWidget. SnapWidget is not a plugin, it is an Instagram app that generates a code to insert anywhere on your blog. It can be used on WordPress, Blogger and Tumblr and any other blogging/web platform that accepts iFrames. One of our favorite things about SnapWidget is the ability to create a carousel slider in a custom width. This feature allows us to put a great feed in the footer of our client’s blogs like the one below.
The standard slider, grid of thumbnails, a map feature and board style are all options in the free version.
Get started with SnapWidget by clicking here. Click on “Get Your Free Widget.” Fill in your username, the hashtag you want to display (or leave blank to display from all of your photos,) select the type of widget (scrolling is the lovely carousel!,) choose the size of your thumbnails, the width of the widget area and any effects you want (auto start scrolling, hover effect, etc.) Click “Get Widget” when you are done filling in the fields. A pop up will appear with your customized code inside. Copy this code.
If you are a WordPress blogger or site owner simply go to your Widgets page on the WP Dashboard and drag a Text widget to the widget area you want to display your feed in. Paste the code into the Text widget and save. You can also use this code on pages or in posts, just make sure that you paste it in the Text window rather than the Visual window.
Instagram Slider Widget by JR Web Studio
This is a WordPress plugin available at the plugin repository. In our tests (and we’ve tried just about every last one on the repository) this was the only reliable WordPress plugin that does not require the dreaded Instagram developer API key AND had a choice of how to display your Instagram feed. Choose from a slider or thumbnail grid. Examples of both are below.
Configuring the plugin can be completed in just a few clicks. Install the plugin (not sure how to install a plugin? read this.) Go to your Widgets page (it’s under Appearances on the WP dashboard) and find “Instagram Slider Widget.” Drag this into the widget area of your choice (for most bloggers this will be a sidebar.) Fill in your Instagram username, select the settings you want and click “save.” Refresh your home (or other page) to see your feed in the widget area live.
